Time to Relax

Finally, why not really pamper yourself and visit one of the many Spas throughout the region, including Sarnano and Tolentino, to sample the mineral waters and other therapeutic treatments?

If even this sounds too exhausting, just think of that quiet drink “back home” at Casa Fenice, watching the beautiful sunset over the mountains.

CASA FENICE

Local Interests

The visitor will find a variety of leisure pursuits to enjoy.  Casa Fenice is ideally situated for trips to either the coast (approximately 50 mins drive) or the mountains (approximately 30 mins drive).  The seaside provides high quality beaches, along with yachting and angling opportunities.  The Conero Riviera, just south of Ancona, is an area of outstanding natural beauty with a wealth of historic sites quite unique on the Adriatic.  The village of Sirolo is considered to be one of the most picturesque corners of the coast.  Further south is the resort of Porto San Giorgio with miles of beautiful sandy beaches.

The magical and mysterious Sibillini mountains provide peace and tranquillity as well as ample opportunities for walks catering for all abilities.  Fascinating locations include Lago di Fiastra, Lago di Pilato, Gola dell’Infernaccio, Piano Grande and Castelluccio.

Activities

Popular activities in the area include walking, cycling, riding, windsurfing, hang-gliding, para-gliding and ballooning.  Many open-air events take place, especially in the summer months, where locals and visitors can view reconstructions of historical and traditional events, e.g. the “Palio” horse race in San Ginesio, participate in a multitude of food-themed celebrations, sample and purchase local produce in markets and attend concerts and theatre productions.  The annual Street Buskers Festival in nearby Colmurano attracts performers from all over the world.

More peaceful moments can be found in the appreciation of artistic and architectural treasures in unspoilt hilltop towns and villages or amongst the lakes, castles and abbeys hidden away in the hills and mountains.

Eating Out

Bars and restaurants serving excellent quality local wine and regional food abound.  Some wine producers open their cellars for sampling and direct purchasing.  The wine “Vernaccia di Serrapetrona” is of particular interest as it is a rare example of a red, sparkling wine, available in a sweet or dry version.  “Olive all’ascolana” (olives stuffed with meat) is a famous local speciality not to be missed.
